However, without Item Revisions and Spell Revisions, the majority of items and spells in the games are either quite dull, underwhelming, or flat out broken. The overall balance is pretty bad in vanilla games. WebbSome abilities are like that, the spirit animal a totemic druid gets are immune to +1 or less, and have a bunch of immunities like free action. That's because kits didn't exist in original BG1, they are balanced for BG2. IIRC at character exported at the end of the original BG1 could be assigned a kit on BG2 before starting Irenicus' dungeon.

WebbThey're actually somewhat balanced in BG2, because chances are if you can hit a mage with it, you could probably hit him with anything else and he'd die in seconds regardless, but in BG1 they're arguably broken. Even SCS with its bajilion pre-buffs is irrelevant when those buffs can be disabled with 1 click.
