Web14 Nov 2016 · If the oil pressure is at zero, then the oil pump has failed and needs replaced or the pickup tube has too much buildup and preventing flow to the oil pump, which will damage the oil pump. Even if a bearing failed, there will still be oil pressure. I recommend replacing the oil pump on the engine and cleaning out the pickup tube. WebIt is acceptable to have 10-15 as idle oil pressure. Oil pressure reading 15 to 20 PSI is read as too low, even in idle condition. The oil pressure may be low in cold weather until the oil pump gets to supply oil to the engine. The reading of oil pressure showing 80 PSI is too high and not safe while driving.
